Honey, i ♥ these corner shelves...

Honey, i ♥ these corner shelves...

...if there were a husband of the year award...mine would get it...

in just the past few months, he's fulfilled lots 'n lots of my decorating dreams

without even breaking a sweat...right honey?

most normal families do these kinds of things over the span of years maybe even decades...but no, once the floodgates opened, they opened,

and even the titanic stood no chance

like Nel says of me nowadays..."it's GO BIG or GO HOME" (heehee)

...so still reporting from the kitchen area...after the chair refurb, and table & existing chairs makeover...we moved on to built-ins...corner shelves!

...now right from the start, i wanna mention that all the pics i took were on a yucky, rainy day, and then at night...say hello to shadows!

(don't judge us, it was midnight and we just wanted to get it done)

First behold the bare corner between the powder room door and the kitchen counter...such wasted space huh?

Here is a short list of non-scientific handyman names of the building materials we used...

Pre-cut 3/4 inch pieces of "nicer" wood

the chief is always telling me what kind of wood needs to be used for all the different things he's doing...

"mdf, primed mdf, 1/4 inch plywood, primed 1/4 inch plywood, 1/2inch thick finished wood..."

and all i hear is..."will make it look nicer"

ok, so we got our "nice" wood, member it's 3/4 inch thick :)

Decorative L Bracket Thingies (Home Depot or Lowe's 2/pack for $7)

Molding of your choice

amount depending on your measurements and number of shelves wanted...in my case 5

Various tools needed...

including a scroll saw, router and a really loud air compressor for the nail gun which the chief would not let me try out :(

rounded off one the corners with the scroll saw (kinda like this) to suit our measurements

(now don't quote me on this stuff, after the chief reads this in the morning, their might be some corrections...oy)

then used a router to shape the top and bottom edges of each shelf

once we figured out placement for each shelf, we hung the L brackets in place to serve as a guide as to where to install the molding (the molding was used to support the back corner of the shelf, since i'm plannin' on puttin' some heavier items on these here shelves...ie: cookbooks, serving bowls, etc...)

molding was measured and cut to size and nailed top flush with L bracket

...secure shelves to top of L brackets with screws to hold in place

(which we haven't done yet...the chief recommends doing this after painting...haven't done that yet either...which makes sense, since it would be easier to paint the pieces individually instead of messin' around with painters tape and tryin' to see in all the nooks and crannies)

voila! built-in corner shelves!

thanks honey...your the best

THE END...♥

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.

Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.

She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.

She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.

She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar.

She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family

and portions for her female servants.

She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.

She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.

In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers.

She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.

When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet.

She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple.

Her husband is respected at the city gate,

where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.

She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes.

She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.

She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.

Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:

“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;

but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

Honor her for all that her hands have done,

and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
